I'm Not Creative Enough for Canva
I bet you've sat down in front of Canva and thought, "I can't do this - I'm not creative."
Well, let me stop you right there. First of all, you decided to start a business, and that shows tremendous creativity (and a little bit of insanity - I'm right there with you!).
But here's the truth, starting a business and being an expert at everything don't go hand in hand. When I first started out, I scrolled through social media for advice and felt like I had to do it all perfectly or I was failing. And let's be honest - those people who look like they're crushing it? They probably are, but many have VAs, marketing help, and copywriters too. They're just not always saying that. If more people were transparent about the support they use, we'd all realise they aren't magically doing everything themselves.
Here's the thing: Right now, your bank balance might feel a bit sad, and you can't afford a designer. That's completely okay.
I'm going to say something that might sound strange - don't take it the wrong way - but I don't want to work with you right now. Obviously, I love designing, but when you're first setting up your business, you don't need me. You need to experiment, find your feet, figure out how to "not be employed," work for yourself, and stop getting distracted by Netflix (been there!).
I want you to go on this creative journey. Try it out. There's nothing wrong with diving into Canva, feeling terrified, pushing some buttons, and seeing what happens. That's part of the journey. Will it look brilliant every time? Probably not - and that's okay. You'll learn from the mistakes and the things that didn't work. As you progress, you may find that what you do and who you want to work with changes. That's all part of the creative process.
See? You ARE creative after all. I knew it.
But creativity and polished design? Those are two different things.
A designer will always spot things you haven't thought of (kind of our thing), but everyone else will just see the message - and that, right now as you start out, is the best thing.
The main "tricks" (or as the kids call them, "hacks") that designers use really aren't a huge secret:
Consistent fonts
Consistent colours
Line things up
Use white space
Simple things like this make a design look polished.
But if you're staring at Canva with decision fatigue because there are too many choices, and you're looking at that blank template you opened because you decided to start from scratch, you might be filled with more dread than when you were watching that horror movie on Netflix earlier (go on, be honest, I know you were!).
So here's where I can help. Simple templates, all set up and ready to go. All you have to do is add your fonts and colours, change the text, and you've saved hours. Everything is specifically designed to grow your audience, promote your services or offers, or promote your masterclass. Just something to help with that overwhelm and too many choices - 10 posts and a carousel, all matching and ready to go.
