5 Reasons why we are not a good fit to work together

Probably a weird start to a blog post, but if you are you doing your research and you’ve found me. First of all, Hi! nice to meet you. But secondly, you probably want to know if we are a good fit to work together so this might help.

I know exactly what I want I just want you to draw it…..

I am not the person for you! I actually want you to turn up with 10 half finished ideas, a vague idea of what you might like, but that feeling that you are not totally sure. Because the bit I love is digging around in you brain - I will just point out not literally - seeing what’s in there, all the things you talk passionately about, the things you haven’t even realised that are making you light up. And just being here for the journey of working with me.

Knowing exactly what you want and wanting me to draw it fills me with dread, you have a fixed idea, you aren't flexible about what you want and I'm guessing you really don't want to hear my design ideas either. That's totally fine, it's just not how I work best, so we probably aren't the right match, but there will be a designer out there whose style is exactly that.

Now you work for me….

Erm, no, I want to work with you, not for you.

This is a partnership, I listen to all of those ideas, the ones that pop up at 3am. The vision you have for your business, the future ideas. You are putting your business in my hands for a little while. I want to look after it, give it a beautiful wrapper and then hand it back to you - with a little bit of support afterwards of course.

I also have times that I work. I’m not now available 24/7 and I may not answer an email within 5 minutes. That doesn’t mean I won’t reply as quickly as I can - but if you have an idea that you send me at 2am - which is fine you can do that - I won’t be replying to you until the next day.

If you want someone that works “for” you then you need to look elsewhere.

I don’t want to fill in all this stuff….

You are going to need to do some work, sorry but that’s just how it is.

The first thing you are going to have to do is fill in a questionnaire about your business, All the foundation stuff, ideal clients, long terms goals, how you want to be perceived, your values, your mission, what inspires you, brands you like, colours and fonts you like and don’t like. It’s a big long list of things that you’ll have to have a good think about. It’s designed to dig really deep into everything. If you don’t fill it in we can’t talk about it, and we can’t start the work. It’s the foundation we are basing everything on. Also one word answers aren’t ok either.

This is an investment, not just in pretty colours, but the future of your brand and making dealing with your brand feel easy, so you go into create a post, add text and done, no second guessing, no overthinking just done.

But without you putting the work in, we can’t move forward.

It's only a quick job….

No it really isn’t, be prepared for this to take at least 8-9 weeks. Yes really if you want to know more read my blog “how long does a brand design actually take” and “what does a brand designer actually do all day”

This isn’t a quick fluff up to make you brand look prettier, this is a deep dive, a real good look at everything you are doing, who you want to work with and where you want to be. That isn’t a small thing, it takes time. And then I have to research and design, getting you the best outcome is what I am aiming for, so no I’m not going to “do it quickly” I am going to take my time so it’s done right.

Can you copy this…..

No, I cannot directly copy someone else's work. All design work is covered by Copywrite and that belongs to the original designer.

And think about it wouldn’t you prefer to have something orignal for your brand. Something that is you and shows your personality to the world. You aren’t a copy of anyone, so you don’t need to copy what they have.

Instead add it to the things that inspire you pile. There is nothing wrong with liking how someone else does their thing, or a colour or a shape. But then it adds ideas for the things you like.

There really aren’t to many rules when you work with me, turn up as you are, be willing to do the work. And I have boundaries for when I work, to protect my health and sanity. For the rest of it we are working together getting all those awesome design ideas for your brand out of your head and onto paper. Creating a brand that is easy to use that flows and that feels like you. So it doesn’t work against you it works with you. So you have time and brain space to do all those other things you’ve really been wanting to do.

So now you know, if you’ve thought any of these things we aren’t a good fit. If your ready for a journey together book an informal chat here so we can talk about what working together will look like.
