How to tell if you brand is holding you back
You're busy with your day-to-day - working with clients, handling admin, having chats - and then it comes to creating something for social media and there it is. That feeling of dread.
You used to love working on your branded stuff. It was fun at first. Creative, even. But now? Now it feels like a chore, and all those ideas rattling around in your head just don't have the time or space to breathe.
Here's the thing: DIYing your brand when you first start out is completely fine - I'd actually recommend it. When you're figuring out who you are and what you want to offer, a bit of Canva experimenting is exactly what you need. It's the season of winging it, and there is absolutely no shame in that.
But at some point, you've ironed out the wobbly bits. You know what you offer. You know who you're talking to. And yet when you look at your brand... something feels off. You can't quite name it, but it's there every time you open Canva, update your website, or send a lead magnet you quietly cringe at.
You've probably read everything designers say you should do. You've been “shoulded” into a corner, hit decision fatigue, and found yourself thinking what does "brand" even mean anymore?
That's when your brand is holding you back.
You're stuck. You don't want to share things because they don't feel right. You're not moving forward because you're too busy going in circles with colours and fonts that don't quite say you.
And that's not something to be ashamed of. I spent a long time thinking I had to do everything in my business myself - that asking for help meant I was failing. It doesn't. It just means you've reached the point where you need someone else's eyes.
I know this is your business baby. You don't just want someone to slap a branded wrapper on it and call it done. You need someone who'll actually listen - dig into who you are, what you do, and why it matters - and then build something that, when you look at it, you think: “yes, that's me!”
Because when you have that clarity, everything gets easier. No more dreading the next post. No more second-guessing every design decision. Just a simple system that works, and a brand you're actually proud to share.
And with all that design noise out of your head? There's finally room for all those other ideas that have been rattling around up there. You might even need a new notebook or two, or three…I fully support this. I love a good notebook.
If you're ready to stop dreading Canva and start feeling genuinely excited about sharing what you do, I'd love to help make that happen.
